Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder can develop after having an unpleasant
experience or seeing a traumatic, life-threatening event or severe injury. 50% of
people will have experienced trauma at some point. Traumatic events include
assault, road traffic incidents, natural disasters, domestic and child abuse, grief,
war, acts of terrorism and traumatic childbirth. If an individual is living with PTSD,
they may have flashbacks and nightmares, avoid situations that bring back
unwanted memories, and struggle with feelings of anxiety, sadness, or anger.
